Robin and Michelle Spratt fell in Love with the Outer Hebridean Islands of Scotland and in 2012 purchased their home, Otters Lodge in North Uist. Settling back into Michelle’s native Scotland, Otters Lodge not only became their home but also the home of Hebridean Candles.
Robin had made candles over many years for enjoyment at home, Michelle being a voracious candle consumer, and when they realised that there was a demand for their products, it made sense to share them more widely.
The result of this was “Hebridean Candles” established in 2014.
Handmade in North Uist every candle poured with care and love for your pleasure.
In 2024 Robin decided to retire from the business after 10 year.
Hello everyone, my name is Emma and I have been lucky enough to be chosen by Robin to take over the reins at Hebridean Candles.
I live and work in Benbecula which is the island South of Grimsay where Hebridean Candles were first made.
My husband and I also run Salar Smokehouse which is about to move to Uachdar in Benbecula and will be alongside the new Hebridean Candles Headquarters. We also run Charlie’s Bistro & Bothy just a mile from the Uachdar site.
I hope to carry on with Hebridean Candles in a way Robin would be proud of and that all his loyal customers as well as new customers will enjoy. Our candles are hand poured and topped in small batches and all the scents are inspired by Hebridean life.

Each candle is hand blended and poured in our workshop to the highest standards.
We have developed our recipes over the years, to create truly authentic fragrances with the smoothest soy wax and carrier oil.
Soya beans are a natural and renewable resource and the wax is naturally bio-degradable, so our products are not just beautiful but eco-friendly.
Our wicks are specially designed for the use in soy wax, made from unbleached cotton and and linen thread and give a good even burn
Compared to the Paraffin wax often used in cheap mass produced candles, Soy wax has a much cleaner burn and is long lasting. We carefully measure just the right amount of fragrance oil to wax, to ensure a soft, but not overpowering, scent throw. The result is a gentle level of fragrant aroma that will fill your home.
